7 reasons you want to date a Korean guy in your life once.

7 reasons you want to date a Korean guy in your life once.

When I was living in Korea, most of the girls and married women I met shared with me their secret desire to date a foreigner –and unsurprisingly, the most common perception was that French men were the most romantic of the bunch. Korean men, they told me, were possessive, stubborn misogynists.

My experience, however, has been different: the younger generation of Korean men was much different from their fathers, and much closer to the true ‘romantic’ man than French men themselves.

Here is why you might want to give a Korean guy a chance.

1. They Try Harder

Korean men who date a foreign girl will go above and beyond to make sure a girl is treated like a princess – just because they believe that we are used to romanticism from our countrymen.

In spite of Korea’s rich historical and cultural heritage, it amazes me how little Koreans think of their country and underestimate their potential, status and position in the world.
This inferiority complex reflects in the way Koreans interact with outsiders: they do everything it takes to make their girlfriends feel great for giving them a chance.

2. They Are Fun

Let’s say it: nobody parties like a Korean guy. You may not instantly get Korean humor, but you got to give credit to a guy who can sing all your favorite pop songs all night long. Koreans love going out and can pull an all-nighter like nobody else.

3. They Are Foodies

Not only do they love food, but they take pictures of their foods as well. Dating a Korean guy is the best way to discover ‘real’ Korean food: they’ll tell you to stay away from kimpapcheonguk, bonchon and your occasional 7/11 kimpap fix.

They will also take you to the proper ‘hansik’ joints so you can appreciate how rich, complex and diverse Korean food is.

4. They Love Western Girls

Foreign girls stand out because of their perceived great looks, with international models frequently being used in advertising, exoticism, and what they represent –generally tied with how they perceive our countries of origin, in my case luxury, culture and sophistication.

Korean men are aware that having a foreign girl at their arms sends a strong social signal: their ability to ‘score’ the girl that everybody wants (or at least, is curious about) – yet, it’s more than just about that for them.

They believe Western girls are open, outgoing and sexually liberated. And yes, we are sexually liberated at a mind-blowing degree.

5. They Couple Dress
Ah! The things you do for love… A trend that started a few years ago and is meant to signify that the couple wearing the same outfit are ‘an item’. Couple dressing are so popular that certain shops in Hongdae even specialize in matching clothes.

The styles range from semi-lassic to original to goofy and are yet another proof that Korean men know how not to take themselves too seriously.

6. They Are Romantic

Korean men are exposed to local dramas and movies that depict the most complicated and improbable love stories. In the end, love always wins because men fight hard against the forces of the universe, a traditional social system or simply their parents’ consent to get the girl they want.

In real life, Korean men are sensitive and attentive of their relationship: they will do what it takes to make their chosen one feels like her happiness is his sole concern.

7. They Take Couple Selfies

Korean men do know how to let go: they have no problem taking a fun snap session with their favorite girl if that’s what she wants. The reason? It’s a great way to make memories.
